URGENT ADVISORY November 27, 2013 at 5:47pm Wednesday, November 27, 2013 The Ministry of Education would like to inform the public that forty-two schools in Georgetown and one on the East Coast of Demerara will remain closed on Thursday following flooding in several areas resulting from heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours. The schools identified to remain closed are the most heavily affected. This decision was made following reports from several teams dispatched on Wednesday by Minister of Education, Hon. Priya Manickchand, to assess the effects of the rainfall on school buildings and the immediate environs. The assessment exercise was led by Chief Education Officer (CEO), Mr. Olato Sam. Mr. Sam advises that every other school will remain opened. He is also advising all teachers, including those stationed at the forty-three schools to report for duty on Thursday. The Ministry, in its decision to have these schools remain closed has taken into consideration, the latest weather report from the Hydrometeorological Office, which indicates that more rainfall is expected over the next 12 hours. The Ministry is working around the clock to ensure that all affected schools are reopened by Friday. The schools to remain closed are as follows; NURSERY - Albouystown, Alexander Village, Ascension, East Street, Happy Hearts, Head Start, Lodge, Polly’s Selman Fraser, Sherman’s, South Road, South Ruimveldt, Roxanne Burnham PRIMARY - Comenius Primary School, Ketley Primary School, Redeemer Primary School, Smith Memorial Primary School, South Ruimveldt Primary School, St. Agnes Primary School, St. Angel’s Primary School, St. Ambrose Primary School, St. Sidwell’s Primary School, St. Stephen’s Primary School, St. Thomas Moore Primary School, Winfer Gardens Primary School and Chateau Margot Primary School (East Coast Demerara) SECONDARY - The Bishop’s High, Brickdam Secondary, Central High, Charlestown Secondary, Christ Church, Secondary, East Ruimveldt Secondary, South Ruimveldt Secondary, St. George’s High, St. Mary’s High, St. Roses High,St. Stanislaus College, Tutorial High, Ascension High, Carmel Secondary, Queenstown Secondary,St. Barnabas Special, David Rose
