**URGENT** HOMELESS DOG AND HER FAMILY…LIVING IN A TENT! – NEW BRITAIN, CT I was driving home on Saturday night and noticed a woman pushing a shopping carriage with a black & white Pit Bull walking alongside her. I noticed a dog bed underneath the carriage so I turned around and asked if she needed dog food…she said YES! I began talking with her for a while and found out that her, her spouse and her dog are homeless and sleep in a tent…she is on disability and the spouse lost his job. She began telling me the story of how she got “Oreo” and how she rescued her as a bait dog when she was just under a year old. She told me that she made a promise to Oreo that she would never put her in danger again. She makes sure her “best friend” eats before she does. My daughter and I traveled down that road at a perfect time because she had just given Oreo that last of the food that she had for her. I made a plan to meet up with her on Sunday to bring her some dog items (food, toys sweater) along with food, clothing, and supplies for her as well. She begged me to help her find a place for Oreo just for the winter, “I can take care of myself, I can keep warm, but I just don’t want her to be cold”. She said she gets a small disability check and is willing to put it towards food for whoever is willing to take her for the winter. I mentioned possibly boarding her…she started to cry at the thought of her in a cage but said if that is the only choice to get her out of the cold, it would have to do (obviously a foster “home” is ideal…we know it doesn’t take long for them to go kennel crazy). She has lived with a small dog and a cat but gets a little nervous around bigger dogs (from her past). The owner thinks that if properly introduced, she would be fine. Oreo is a sweet ‘ol girl, about 6 years old. She has had no vetting but I can try and help with that. ~~~~ CAN ANYONE FOSTER THIS POOR GIRL FOR THE WINTER???? The thought of her walking around in this cold breaks my heart! IF YOU CAN HELP, PLEASE CONTACT ME AT 860-622-9775 OR booch0517@aol . Thank you!
