URGENT INFORMATION CHANGES TO DRIVERS LICENCES FROM 9th Sept 2014 Just to remind all holders of LGV (HGV) and PCV (PSV) licenses that the grandfather rights period to obtain your Drivers Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) and the DQC card expires on midnight 9th sept 2014. It will be an offence to drive a one of the above vehicles without having the card in your possession. and Yes you have to carry it with you whilst driving. There is no extension to this date, the grandfather rights period has been active for the last 5 years so there is no excuse if you dont have one by the 9th Fixed penalty fine of £1000 and 3 points if you are caught without The area traffic commissioner has instructed the police to vigoursly enforce the new regulations from 10th sept THIS BIT CONCERNS EVERYONE If you passed your driving test prior to 1997 you were given the entitlement to drive up to 7.5 tonne vehicles C1 licence, If you have not completed the required 35 hours of training for a CPC by 9th sept you will lose the CI entitlement FOREVER. if you then wish to drive a 7.5 tonne vehicle you will have to sit the C1 test and take the CPC course and exam White van man beware if you occasionally drive 7.5 tonne this will affect you. It is also be an offence for an operator to allow this to happen £10000 fine The drivers CPC course is designed to update professional drivers as to new rules and regulations, I finished mine yesterday and the upcoming legislation bit was very interesting If you are driving a transit type vehicle with a trailer for hire or reward, and this includes in conjunction with your own business so builders beware. and the weight exceeds 3.5 tonnes, you are required to have a tacograph fitted and comply with the drivers hours regulations, and the road transport working time directive. This has been law for some time If however you have not got one fitted, by the end of the year, this will mean that you will have to have a digital taco fitted, as analogue units are to be phased out for new installations. There are several plant hire companies who are having to fit tacos in landrovers when they are used to transport mini diggers on trailers. You are talking £3000 plus to have a taco fitted And white van man they are coming to get you 3 years ago a new piece of construction legislation came into force, that all new commercial vehicles including vans have to be designed to take digital taco equipment. So the space is there waiting for it to be fitted, and its not going to be very long before it comes in
