US 231 has reopened near Fountain. Details on the plane crash that caused the closure from the BCSO: May 25, 2014 The Bay County Sheriffs Office responded to the scene of a plane crash on Longleaf Road near Bay, Jackson and Calhoun County lines this morning after a 911 call was received at about 9:25 AM. A witness to the crash called to report the plane had gone down. A fire was caused by the crash and the Bay County Fire Department and the Florida Division of Forestry has been notified and is working to contain the fire. Three passengers in the plane did not survive. The pilot was taken to a local hospital in extremely critical condition and is currently being transported to a burn center. Names of the deceased and injured are not being released at this time. The FAA and the NTSD have been notified and are en route to conduct an investigation into the cause of the crash. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
