US Open Thursday Preview - Nadal, Ferrer, Federer In Second Round Action: • Second round in the bottom half of the draw takes place on Thursday with the two active Grand Slam singles champions leading the way on Arthur Ashe Stadium, World No. 2 Rafael Nadal and No. 7 Roger Federer. In addition, the top two Americans, No. 13 seed John Isner and No. 26 Sam Querrey are in action. • The five-time US Open champion and 17-time major winner Federer is the first men’s match on Ashe as he plays Argentine Carlos Berlocq for the second time. Federer won the previous meeting in Rome last year. He tied John McEnroe for ninth place in the US Open career match wins list (65). Berlocq is trying to win his first career match against a Top 10 opponent (0-16). • At night Nadal takes on Brazilian qualifier Rogerio Dutra Silva for the first time. Nadal, who won the 2010 US Open and is a 12-time major champion, is undefeated against Brazilians in his career (10-0) and is also 18-0 lifetime against qualifiers in Grand Slam play. Nadal leads the ATP World Tour this season with nine titles and a 54-3 match record (16-0 on hard courts). Dutra Silva saved seven match points in his first round win over Canadian Vasek Pospisil. He is trying to reach the third round in a Grand Slam tournament for the first time. • On Armstrong, No. 4 David Ferrer plays Spanish countryman Roberto Bautista Agut for the second time (Ferrer leads 1-0). Ferrer has advanced to the quarter-finals or better in the past seven Grand Slam tournaments, including the semi-finals here last year and in ’07.
