US foreign policy appears to be this: If another country seems to - TopicsExpress

US foreign policy appears to be this: If another country seems to be acting against US and global capitals interests, declare it undemocratic (regardless of whether it has had elections or not), label its leader a dictator, even if he has been freely elected, and then a madman, the next Hitler, and so forth. Then we engage in what we now call diplomacy, which means primarily: NO NEGOTIATION. We demand that the other party capitulate unconditionally before any negotiation, (so called) is even considered. And then when these fail: Commence humanitarian bombing. And then either directly or by proxy, remove the rulers and declare that democracy will emerge spontaneously. The underlying assumption is that when you remove a genuinely authoritarian regime in a country where the ruling elite has successfully repressed any political culture and civil society, the result will be the spontaneous emergency of a pro-American, democratic, civil society and rights respecting, and pro foreign capital embracing new ruling elite is so absurd that it can pass without further comment. But still it appears that the ruling elites of both parties in this country actually believe this. It would in a way be comforting if it seemed that they only put this out for public consumption and has some actual realistic private agenda, so this does not seem to be the case. And in this particular regard it seems that the current Democratic regime may actually be worse than the Republicans, though the War Crimes of the Republicans are still, in the post Vietnam era, dramatically worse. Take this as my anti-endorsement of Hilary Clinton for President. I will do as seems expedient on election day, but at this point it seems that the only good thing that can be said about voting Democratic is that it averts the planet threatening catastrophe of a total Republican take over.
