US seeks ‘control’ over Egypt through its military presstv.ir/detail/2013/08/18/319385/us-seeks-control-over-egypt-via-military/ A number of politicians in the United States believe that they can “exert control” over Egypt by supporting the Egyptian military, says William Beeman, a professor at the University of Minnesota. Despite the recent fatal crackdown on supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi in Egypt which has left hundreds of people dead, the US has shown no sign that it would stop its $1.3 billion in annual aid to the Egyptian military. Washington has refused to call the July 3 military-led ouster of Morsi a coup because such acknowledgement would trigger an automatic congressional ban on the US aid to the Egyptian military. “The United States has, ever since the Camp David Accords, been giving approximately one-third of all US foreign aid to Egypt. Another one-third of all US aid goes to Israel,” said Beeman in a phone interview with Press TV on Sunday.
