USDA Forest Service Fire and Aviation Management National Interagency Fire Center National Interagency Incident Communications Division OUTREACH NOTICE Pathways Internships Student Trainee (Electronics/Telecommunications) The USDA Forest Service, National Interagency Incident Communications Division at the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho will soon be advertising via USAJobs to fill one to seven Student Trainee (Electronics Technician, GS-0899-3/4/5 and/or Telecommunications Specialist, GS-0399-3/4/5) Pathways internship positions. This outreach is primarily directed at current full-time students within the local commuting area who are eligible for a Pathways internship appointment and who are pursuing an associate or bachelor degree in electronics, engineering, telecommunications, or related fields at an accredited educational institution. These positions are located in the National Interagency Incident Communications Division (NIICD) at the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC), Boise, Idaho, a detached branch of Fire and Aviation Management, Washington Office. The NIICD is a field organization which provides radio communications and infrared operations support to wildland fire management agencies in the United States, as well as for major and multiple disasters of all types. The NIICD is responsible for all emergency communications equipment, systems and services provided by the National Interagency Fire Center. The Pathways Internship Program is designed to offer students federal career exploration by integrating classroom study with paid work experience, with the objective of preparing the student for responsible placement into the Forest Service’s permanent workforce. The program is conducted in accordance with a planned training/development schedule and a working agreement between the Forest Service and the student.
