UWC DAY Reflection I see one of the aims of the UWC Day is to bring the UWC values to life. I thought I will offer my reflection. I think that rather than solely focusing on the cultural and ethnic differences between us, we should pay attention to the fact that UWC also means a variety of ideologies that we, the UWC students/alumni agree with, world-views we express, political parties we support and visions of the future we have. In fact, the biggest, and maybe even the only, thing we share is ambition. Ambition is something that can be both good and bad. It can take us very far, give us motivation to achieve our aims, but it can also mean conflict and war. For me, living UWC values means managing my ambition responsibly. It means remembering that, despite different people and objects telling us to be and go for the best, what we really need to achieve is to be and do good. That is simply because it is precisely in a situation when a number of individuals want to be the best ones that conflict starts. My input to the UWC DAY 2014 therefore is: be good, live good, have a good heart.
