Ugandas failure to qualify for the AFCON finals in Equatorial - TopicsExpress

Ugandas failure to qualify for the AFCON finals in Equatorial Guinea next year has xposed the shallows minds of Ugandan sports journalists, pundits, experts blah blah name it. As a certified Uganda Cranes fan, I will pen my verdict below in 3 phases. ANDY MWESIGWA Well we conceded two goals because of him, but he shouldnt take blame. But even if he is to do so, I have seen players who score own goal hattricks in games that matter. I have seen Didier Drogba miss a penalty that would have handed Ivory Coast the Africa Cup. I have seen John Terry miss a penalty that would have won Chelsea the champions league. And all these players go on to be great players and captains on their respective teams. Wayne Rooney has for different reasons disappointed the Three Lions at the 3 World cups he has played, however hes been handed the captaincy now. So why is it so special with Andy? Hes been so great for team in this campaign. We havent conceded that much. Why do we have to attack him, abuse him, threaten his family and vandalise his home?? Really? We either loose or win, thats football. But its very important to contain our emotions when the good or bad results come. UGANDA CRANES. Going into the Guinea games, we had minimal chances to qualify. It wasnt the closest we had ever got. When the groups where out, I knew it was going to be hard for us to go through unless we had done the following. Win all home games, and get at least a point away. With 10 points, we wud be in the queue up and running. Yes, Namboole had been a Fortress for a decade, winning against all types of opponents. So it was possible for us to get maximum (9) points here. The other point away from home was going to be hard to get, all our opponents being West Africans. We have managed a point there before I think against Niger, so it wasnt rocket science too. The games begin. We win two games at home, and a draw away in Ghana. So we needed one more win at home, the game against Adebayors Togo. We lost that one, and to me that was the end. It takes me to the third and final phase. GUINEA. The Ebola struck nation of West Africa was our opponent in the last game we played on a neutral ground in Morocco. Coming into this game, Guinea also had as much as the same chances of qualifying like we did. But wait a moment, they had more. They were playing from home, a place from where they had secured 4 points. It was fortress for them too. It was hurting for them not to play in front of their home crowds due to Ebola, so they had to make up. They to make up for the fans and for themselves. Give them Uganda, who never performs well away against West African opponents, who never performs well in the Magreeb. Well its was out for everyone to see. We lost. We lost coz its part of the game. Lets keep our heads high, coz the Cranes will always be our team, no matter who plays there, no matter who coaches, no matter who is in FUFA, UGANDA CRANES FOREVER.
