Ukraine: Captured Kiev soldiers paraded and heckled in central Donetsk Several dozen captured Kiev soldiers were paraded through the streets of Donetsk, Sunday, were they were heckled by a large crowd. The paraded soldiers, captured in the course of Kiev’s offensive on the Donbass region, were taken to the central Lenin Square. Dozens of captured or destroyed Ukrainian military hardware were also laid out in Lenin Square. This was an action by the self-proclaimed People’s Republic of Donetsk to mock Kiev’s Independence Day celebrations. Earlier Sunday hundreds of marching troops and military hardware paraded the streets leading to Maidan Square in Kiev in celebration of the 23rd anniversary of Ukraine’s independence from the Soviet Union. This was the first military parade since the previous president, Viktor Yanukovych, abolished the practice in 2009.
