Umami Monster. This beer screams savoury at you, yet it has this caramel feel to it. This goes well with pork but also holds well on its own. This really reminds me of Japanese soup/broth based meals. You really get the feeling this is brewed using kombu, yet its not salty at all. The kombu makes this really rich and certainly not sessionable. Id liken its complexity to that of a big Belgian ale. It kind of has this finish to it that reminds me of fish & chips + tomato sauce. I think if Old Pulteney were to make a beer it would taste like this. I really really enjoyed this. Would not recommend introducing somebody to craft beer with this though. This really has the umami flavour!
