Umana Umana promises to declare Ikono, others special development areas · To pay monthly stipends to the elderly The APC Governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Umana Okon Umana has stated that his administration will declare Ikono, Ini and a few other neglected communities Special Development Areas which would receive massive infrastructural development and economic investments from the state government. ‘The absence of basic infrastructures like roads and amenities like health facilities in Ikono and Ini Local Government Areas is very disheartening’. We will declare such places which also include Etim Ekpo, Ika, Ukanafun, Oruk Anam, Oron, Mbo, Okobo, Uruefo-Oruko and Urung Uko as Special Development Areas and give them special developmental attention’, Umana stated at a campaign rally in Ikono Friday. In addition, the governorship candidate, who is noted for his compassion and philanthropy also pledged to pay the state’s senior citizens who are 65 years and above monthly allowances to help them live healthy and happy life. ‘My administration will take adequate statistics of the elderly so that we can support them through a special welfare scheme. This is in line with the social welfare policy of the APC’, he said to the applause of the large crowd. Highpoints of the rally was the the presentation of the party’s flag to the the two House of Assembly candidatess and the House of Reps candidate; and the inspiring speech by the Obong Inibehe Okori, the senatorial candidate for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district.
