Unabashed Joy. We talked about this briefly at our last - TopicsExpress

Unabashed Joy. We talked about this briefly at our last meeting-- and I want you all to have it fresh in your minds as we prepare for our last week of practices before District competition. When you first start working on your piece-- be it a platform event like Persuasive, Informative or Extemp or an Interpretive piece, like a Serious Prose, Poetry or Humorous-- you look at it from many different angles, figuring out what suits your personality or interest. You spend a lot of time just memorizing the thing! But to really bring it to life, you have instill the PASSION to make it come alive for your audience. Every pause, every facial expression, even the tiniest of nuances, can make or break a performance. You want your audience to forget they are watching a speech competition. Most of you already know this, of course-- but as you come into the biggest competition of the season, it bears repeating. Channel that same excitement and JOY of performing that you had in the beginning of the season into your rehearsals this week. Look at everything through a fresh lens as you come in and perform for family and friends. Be open to all the feedback you receive. None of you need to rework your entire piece-- that would be crazy!!! But adding one or two little extra touches or finding a way to show that unabashed joy might make a very big difference for each one of you. We are the luckiest coaches... and we are so proud of you! Lets head into the next two weeks with some FUN. Some JOY. (Seriously!)
