Uncle Obama and his ilk keep postulating raising the minimum wage - TopicsExpress

Uncle Obama and his ilk keep postulating raising the minimum wage because “people need to earn enough to live.” This is true—people do need a living wage. But raising the minimum wage wont fix the real problem. Not all low paid workers are toiling away at fast food places. Some of them are teaching in colleges. Some are doing the exact same work as their higher paid co-workers, but they are “temporary workers” so they do not get even close to the same pay. Why doesn’t the current administration look into this sort of behavior? Universities keep raising tuition rates—but it certainly is not the teachers who are getting that money. The vast majority of universities today hire adjuncts—teachers who have the same work load and do the same thing as their full time counterparts, but for a fraction of the pay. Manufacturers and other businesses hire “permanent” temporary workers. They work the same hours as the regular employees but receive no benefits and much less pay. Instead of raising the minimum wage across the board why not fix this travesty?
