Undressed stones and unused steps of the Brazen Altar - all point - TopicsExpress

Undressed stones and unused steps of the Brazen Altar - all point to Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross & resurrection. Exodus 20:25 And if you make Me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of hewn stone; for if you use your tool on it, you have profaned it. A dressed stone is a carved stone, smoothed with man-made tools. God was warning the people that man’s effort to carve smooth stones is unacceptable. Salvation is “not of works” (Eph 2:8-9), but a free gift (Rom 5: 15-18). The only works that satisfy God are His own. Only jagged, rough altar stones would resemble death. The Altar would be defiled when man added heir self-made works, to His “finished work”. Exodus 20:26 Nor shall you go up by steps to My altar, that your nakedness may not be exposed on it.’ Steps represents man’s attempt to elevate himself. The purpose for steps it to take us higher, but James 4:6 warns “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble”. Any self-elevation by trying to look religious or wanting to be noticed is of the flesh and the Lord says it is defiled.
