Unexpectedly (for myself), Ive been listening to a great deal of recorded music during past week. Schoenberg, Webern, Berg, Mahler, Stravinsky, Sibelius, Strauss, Janacek, Bartok, Shostakovich, Ligeti, Debussy, Copland, Feldman, Messiaen, Cage, John Luther Adams. Out of this vivid horde, three particular works perform the strongest gravitational pull on me for a current moment — Schoenbergs Verklaerte Nacht, Messiaens Quatuor pour la fin du temps and Feldmans Rothko Chapel. The latter feels most at home for now, so I cant resist sharing.
