Unfortunately, it looks as though not only retailers like Sears, Sony, RadioShack and Sobeys (and, of course, Target!) are closing doors and laying off people in huge numbers. Suncor just cut 1000 jobs, a phrase which means 1000 hard-working, tax-paying people are out of work. Theyve also taken $1billion out of their budget for this year, and are planning $600-800million in cuts over the next two years. The Conference Board of Canada is now predicting that Alberta will fall into recession this year. Even those who dont think a recession is coming say 2015 wont be pretty. Crude oil is sitting at $45.89/barrel, and if Suncor is taking this kind of action, I wonder when they expect to see the drop end? So ... how are your short and long term preparedness efforts going, how are you on your self-sufficiency journey?
