Uniontown event praised By Charmaine L. Sampson | Posted: Thursday, October 9, 2014 2:00 am On Saturday, Sept. 13, I had the honor of attending the Uniontown Area Senior High School Hall of Fame induction. If you didnt go, you missed a wonderfully organized, outstanding event. Kudos to Tony Mercadante, Sal Mercadante, Mark Wood, Rich Jarina and Tom George plus a few others, for putting the breakfast and ceremony together. This was the second Hall of Fame sponsored by this committee. The cafeteria ladies provided a wonderful, home-cooked breakfast in the brand new cafeteria that was as good as any breakfast you can find in any restaurant in this town. The tables were lovely, the food was hot and the service was outstanding. Hats off to a wonderful staff! Following breakfast, we all moved to the newly renovated auditorium to enjoy learning about our former graduates and their professional and academic accomplishments since they left Uniontown. I saw a girlfriend I walked to school with in second grade and then another girlfriend I walked to school with starting at the Park School in third grade and then all through junior high school at Lafayette and through Uniontown Senior High School, as it was known at that time. I also got caught up with a former band member who is now a college president. It was so great to see these three women and hear about the marvelous lives hey have had since we first met, oh, so many years ago. Their lives have been outstanding and exciting, but they were the same kind, friendly women I remember. They never forgot their roots. All of the honorees gave heartfelt speeches about their lives. Some were very emotional and some shared laughter. It was amazing to realize that these people came from little, old Uniontown, Pennsylvania and went on to make a name or themselves and still remained humble and appreciative of what they learned at UAHS. Im glad I went the first time, and Im equally as glad that I went a second time. For those of you who graduated from UAHS, you are missing a great event. You need to be there too. You will remember a lot of things and hear some things you didnt know about. I encourage all of you to attend the breakfast and ceremony next year. Take a few hours out of your busy schedule to take a walk down memory lane. Its good for the soul. The event ended on a high note with the Red Raider band playing our alma mater and the Red Raider fight song. Lets go Raiders! Again, thanks to the committee, and I look forward to seeing more of my friends at next years event.
