Leigh Anne will impact your life forever. Jeannette Walls’ journey is spectacular and riveting. She is the best selling author of The Glass Castle. Jeannette grew up in the desert of the American Southwest and then in a West Virginia mining town with her three siblings and her brilliant yet irresponsible parents who managed to love them and neglect them at the same time. Jeannette’s story is harrowing and hilarious as she lived without food and indoor plumbing yet was encouraged to read Shakespeare and dream of the beautiful glass house they would build one day. Despite all her hardships, she developed the determination to leave West Virginia on her own at the age of 16, move to New York City, enroll in Barnard College and eventually become a well-known columnist. Her most recent novel called, The Silver Star was released on June, 2013.What is so astonishing is not just that she had the guts and intelligence to get out, but that she still has deep affection for her parents. For two decades Jeannette Walls hid from her roots. But now she tells her own story. Come hear Jeannette Walls story on Tuesday, April 8. Mia Farrow, acclaimed actress and humanitarian is the daughter of film star Maureen O’Sullivan and director John Farrow. Her role in the 60’s soap opera, Peyton Place made her an overnight teen idol. When she became the third wife of singer Frank Sinatra, 30 years her senior, the marriage caused a great deal of newspaper gossip, but didnt last long. After her divorce, Mia and her sister Prudence (of the song “Dear Prudence”) travelled to India with the Beatles and Donovan. Her second and third marriages to Andre Previn and Woody Allen became the focus of the tabloids - especially when Mia discovered that Woody Allen was having an affair with their adopted daughter. After the custody battle, Mia Farrow wrote her memoirs entitled, What Falls Away. Beyond the Hollywood gossip columns - Mia Farrow is a remarkable humanitarian that very few can emulate. She is a huge advocate for children’s rights in Africa and in the Darfur region. She is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and has travelled extensively around the world including Angola, Cameroon, Chad, Haiti, Sudan and Uganda. Mia Farrow will open your eyes to the world around you on Monday, April 28. Whether you love Amy Tan for her scalawag ghosts or her mother-daughter tyrannies, Amy has amassed legions of faithful readers in the past 25 years since the publication of her first novel, The Joy Luck Club. As a child, Amy believed her life was duller than most. So she read to escape. Her mother wanted her to be a doctor or a concert pianist. She secretly dreamed of becoming an artist. Her mother’s life story along with her bossy, self -serving and garrulous ways inspired her writings. Amy’s novel The Kitchen God’s Wife was based on the life story of her mother, who left an abusive husband and three daughters and came to America from Shanghai in 1949.
