United States Increases Disaster Relief Assistance to Solomon Islands in Response to Floods In response to floods in Guadalcanal Island last week, the United States Government will provide an additional $150,000 U.S. dollars for the delivery of emergency relief items and water, sanitation, and hygiene assistance for disaster-affected communities. Save the Children is the new implementing organization for the U.S. disaster relief assistance with a new total of $250,000 U.S. dollars. On April 4, U.S. Ambassador to Solomon Islands, Walter North issued a disaster declaration to support the immediate relief efforts to counter the effects of the floods in the Solomon Islands. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) will work with Save the Children to provide non-food humanitarian assistance. The previously announced partner, the French Red Cross, is assisting disaster relief efforts using a different financial source
