Unlike Scrooge, we don’t get a spirit to show us what the future holds if we don’t change our ways. That’s what we have science for. Its a shame, then, that even scientists seem to avoid the P word, focusing always on finding ways to cope with an ever larger population - as if fertility rates were set in stone. Every article on climate change and on any other environmental issue should mention the need for ensuring that everyone in the world has access to family planning services and understands the need for reproductive restraint.
