Unparalleled Intellectuality Of what importance is a law if it is wrongly interpreted? Beloved in Christ, has it occurred to you that the proper interpretation of a law is possibly more important that the law itself? In fact, is it not good wisdom to expunge a law that has no proper interpretation so as to prevent misinterpretation? For instance, why say corruption is a crime and not clearly state what constitutes corruption? Ghana has for the past few months learnt great lessons haven to do with the proper interpretation of laws. It will interest you to know that a similar event arose in the book of Luke 14 v 1 – 6 with respect to one of God’s laws. Full of life and love for all, our Lord Jesus Christ in verse one of Luke 14 paid a visit to one Chief Pharisee on a Sabbath to feast with him. As expected, His critics and fault finders decided to give Him a close marking so as to fault Him and justify why He should be incarcerated and prosecuted. Let an immigration officer decide to live a life that pleases God and you can be sure he will be put under a fault-finding radar by a great many colleague of his so as to get rid of him. The result is same at the harbor, in the hospitals, in our schools, at the ministries and sadly so even in our Churches. Fellow Christian, if your master had to go through that, so will you; for a servant is not greater than his master. Have you made yourself a fault-detective of someone who has decided to please God by doing things right? Please repent. Quoting from the King James Bible, the fourth commandment in the Decalogue as captured in Exodus 20 v 10 reads; “But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy GOD: in it thou shalt not do any work…”. Since they sought not the Holy Spirit’s assistance in understanding what constitutes work, our Pharisee brothers opened themselves to some flawed understanding based on their own intellect. What is work or when is work said to be done? If the Law was given by God, the interpretation must come from God also. The destructive effect of a wrongly understood Scripture resulting from a wrong interpretation surpasses that of the biggest nuclear weapon. “For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knoweth no man, BUT THE SPIRIT OF GOD.”- 1 Corinthians 2 v 11. Beloved, NEVER READ THE BIBLE WITHOUT THE AID OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. Employing the style of anticipatory reasoning, our Lord Jesus Christ asked a very intelligent rhetorical question in verse three (3) of Luke 14; “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?” Beloved, you can imaging the utter shock on the faces of those Pharisees for this was the very thing they wanted to fault Him for. “How did He read our minds?” they may have thought to themselves; an admirable example of God’s Omniscience. Dumbfounded, the Pharisees and experts of the law remained silent as Christ healed the man with dropsy. How limited human wisdom is; how superior, deep and eternal God’s Wisdom is. Whosoever walks with God’s Wisdom is always victorious. Beloved, seek God’s Wisdom; SEEK CHRIST. What is work or when is work said to be done? Don’t be surprise if sweet memories of your secondary school physics class start filling your mind. Many a science student had and still have “great affection” for physics isn’t it? Beloved, please give special attention to how our Lord Jesus Christ explained work and when it is done in verse five (5). You will humbly realise with awe that our Lord Jesus Christ gave here the perfect definition for work by using the scenario of rescuing an ox from a pit many years before the French Mathematician by name Gaspard-Gustave Coriolis propounded the definition for work in 1826 as “weight lifted though a height”. The act of pulling an ox from the button of a pit to land will result in the displacement of the ox over a vertical distance (height) in the direction of the force of pull. This is how our Lord Jesus Christ proved that act to be work and defined work done; IMMORTAL INVINSIBLE, GOD ONLY WISE. Beloved, science can ONLY serve its course when defined in the domain of the existence of an ALMIGHTY SOVEREIGN GOD. If the transfusion of blood to a woman during child birth is to give life to her, how then is it not of great TRUTH that the BLOOD of JESUS CHRIST, Son of God who is God Himself, gives ETERNAL LIFE? Fascinating! 1 Corinthians 1 v 23 – 24 reads, “But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness. But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the POWER OF GOD, and THE WISDOM OF GOD.” Beloved, in your pursuit of great knowledge and intellectuality, pursue CHRIST. Amen.
