Unpopular opinions time, one for Marvel and one for DC. Marvel: Agent Phil Coulson doesnt interest me. Never really has, except for a few chuckles in the films. He was the straight man in the first handful of Marvel flicks, strictly a joke character. I dont understand the obsession with him. He overstayed his welcome for me. The joke lost its funniness when they tried to flesh him out more, I just didnt buy it. Its no secret I think Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. is just as much a bucket of meh as Arrow or any other number of pretty mindless TV shows based on comics or the subsequent films, but I dont find him any more effective or interesting in that capacity. And I tried. DC: Jason Todd served more of a purpose in Batmans world, both to the character of Batman and to the mythos in general, by being dead. Him coming back is lame. I believe Denny ONeil had said it best, It would be a really sleazy stunt to bring him back. And it was. It took away the impact that had on Batman. Sure it slammed it in his face with the Under The Hood comic when Jason returns, but that could have just been a one shot thing, then boom. Dead again. Lost again. It was important that he was another character that Bruce loved that he couldnt save. Like his parents. So I dont get the obsession with him as the Red Hood either, and dont agree hes as effective a character walking around again as he was when he was killed by the Joker.
