Unrestrained Passenger Killed in Livingston Parish Fatal Crash Denham Springs – On Saturday, July 27, 2013, shortly before 9:00 pm, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 64 (Magnolia Beach Rd.) west of LA Hwy 1028 in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of 20 year old Livingston resident Mickel L. Tetreault. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 28 year old Baton Rouge resident Samuel Doherty III was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on LA Hwy 64. At the same time, 22 year old Bryan Payne of Denham Springs was driving a 1997 Ford pickup truck eastbound on LA Hwy 64. For unknown reasons, Doherty’s Silverado crossed over the center line into the eastbound lane of travel and struck Payne’s vehicle head-on. Tetreault (a front seat passenger in Payne’s vehicle) was not wearing a seatbelt. He suffered fatal injuries from the crash. Payne suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital despite the fact that he was properly restrained. Doherty was properly restrained; however, impairment on his part is suspected. Routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation, and charges are pending. Troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving at all times. Never drive a motor vehicle when impaired or fatigued. Always remain buckled up while in a vehicle, regardless of seating position. Avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road, and always obey all traffic control devices.
