Unto the populace of Caid, do I, Messer Giuseppe Francesco da - TopicsExpress

Unto the populace of Caid, do I, Messer Giuseppe Francesco da Borgia, send you these fond greetings. Good people, I speak today not as a Barone or as a peer, but simply as a member of the populace of Caid to address a trend that I have noticed in recent times and believe needs to be considered. Before I do, I would like to emphasize the fact that I am absolutely NOT picking on anybody specific past or present. This is, again, what I have noticed as a trend developing over the past few years – no more and no less. Whether it be a Coronation, or a Crown Tourney, Caid has been getting more and more into the habit of having processions – loooooooong processions. OK. Fine. I like processions. I like pageantry. I like pomp and circumstance. I like heraldry, bling, and a good Kodak moment. But the kind of processions I am talking about are not pomp and pageantry – they are, instead, just lines and lines of people. Particularly at a Crown Tourney, when the final two fighters approach the field, it is not uncommon to see a procession of individuals stretch halfway around the list field or more. And to be honest, I find this, in a word, distasteful. Why? Simple. I find it an honor to be asked to represent and support a fighter and consort… as one of maybe up to 10. Not as one of maybe up to fifty. And when there are potentially more people in a procession than there are watching, it begs the question – what is the point? I put this out simply as a matter of discussion and as a point of conversation. Personally, I would prefer to see Crown Tourney contenders err to the side of modesty and keep the final round procession short sweet and particularly meaningful, including only a small amount of people who are near and dear to the couple. In summation, I find that “The show” is much more enjoyable if you have more people in the audience than you do on stage. Just my two ducats worth on this fine Friday afternoon. Giuseppe
