Update - Madera Sheriffs just found the missing grandmother moments ago. She is alive and she is responsive. Press Release from Madera Sheriffs OAKHURST, MADERA COUNTY – Sheriff John Anderson this afternoon launched a search above Oakhurst, after being advised (at around 1:42 this afternoon) that an 8-year old girl wandered into Sugar Pine Camp, stating her Grandmother had died. There are few details available for release at this juncture. What we can report at this time, is that the little girl and her Grandmother, who live in Oakhurst, reportedly left Thursday night, by horseback, to go camping near Big Sandy. The Sheriff’s office is not identifying the name of the woman or her age at this time. Volunteers and Deputies with Madera County Sheriff’s SAR Team are carrying out the search by both 4X4’s and ATV’s. A request for trailing dogs has been issued.
