Update: 1st January 2015 at 10.00 pm In Aid of Flood Victims Fund at RM11,370.45 Posted to Facebook on 26 December 2014 at 10:20 am. First of all, I wish everyone Happy New Year. On the 31 December 2014, the last day of the donation drive, a classmate emailed to me to say she is contributing the balance of RM205 to bring the total donation to the RM10K mark, RM10,000.45 to be exact. Later that evening a good friend called me from Penang to say that she is making an additional donation of RM1,000 and expressed her deep concern for the plight of the flood victims, especially those who have to rely on rainwater for survival. Such is her compassion. Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu to her. She wishes to remain anonymous. Today, 1st January 2015, my wife and I together with our son, Jun Kiat, and young nephew, Jun Yin, and 2 other friends, Augustine and Terence, went shopping to get the necessary supplies. A friend, seeing us with the unusually large quantities of supplies, approached us to make a donation, knowing that these are going to the flood victims. My niece in law, Wong Mei Li, donated 50 blankets, 50 bath towels and some hand towels while a niece, Jessica Ng, contributed a bag of pre-use clothings. Mr. Stanley Yee, representing Y-Ser Marketing Sdn Bhd, sponsored 50 5-gallon plastic pails on 28 December 2014. We will use these pails to store the necessities, one pail to a family. I am indeed humbled by the contributions from all of you and your willingness to come forth to help the people affected by this devastating flood. 29 December 2014 This evening, my wife and I spent over an hour at a hypermarket to check out the prices of some of the items that we have shortlisted. Bath towel at RM10 to RM15, Blanket at RM20, battery at RM3 per pack of 4, tea light candle at RM13 per pack of 100. We will visit another one or two more hypermarkets and also pharmacies for eucalyptus oil and bandages. We will shop on the 1st January 2015. Shortlisted Items Torch light, dry cell (battery), lighter, candle, bandage, eucalyptus oil (minyak angin), mosquito coil, bath towel, blanket, packet drink, bottled drinking water, biscuit, chocolate (kit kat). May add buns on the day of delivery. These will be properly packed in plastic bags and then kept in the pail. I have added laundry powder, soap, eye lotion, plaster and paracetamol to the list. With the fund of RM11,370.45 collected as of now, I have allocated RM180 for necessities per family and for 50 families. The balance will be used to buy more bottled drinking water and possibly blankets and bath towels for general distribution. A sum of RM500 will be set aside for incidental expenses. 29 December 2014 I have been in touch with a classmate and Rotarian and gathered that they have made several land trips to Gua Musang and other parts of Kelantan. They have also planned more trips in the coming week. I am considering delivering our necessities to the flood victims with their assistance. I am also waiting for a definite response from the friend in Pahang. 27 December 2014 I have communicated with a friend residing in Pahang this morning to help identify a location or locations where there may be 30 - 50 families severely affected by the floods and the necessities required.
