Update #3 - We are in a final stretch to select three top winners of The Last Man Standing - Where is Alberich? online contest! The 11 semi-finalists essays have been sent to six fabulous judges, all generously volunteering their time despite their super busy schedules: • Santa Fes own Brünnhilde, soprano Jeanne-Michèle Charbonnet; • Paul Curran, currently in London directing a musical (!) after directing Santa Fe Operas La donna del lago, in Russia for Holländer, to New York City for Baden, Baden 1927; • Leo Hussain, rising British conductor who is now in Copenhagen conducting Falstaff by another opera giant celebrating the bicentenary, Giuseppe Verdi; • Speight Jenkins, esteemed Wagnerian and the Seattle Opera’s General Director who presented three Ring cycles this summer, checking in from Frankfurt where he is attending a Wagner performance; • Bass baritone Daniel Sumegi from Australia, now in Melbourne rehearsing the role of Hagen (Alberich’s son); and • Much-loved Seattle Opera’s “Green” Ring director (among his many opera and theater directing credits) and fantastic opera studies teacher at the Juilliard School directing the Juilliard Opera Stephen Wadsworth in New York City. Thank you, judges, for your help with the contest! Stay tuned, for soon we will know who has won The Golden Apple Prize and (new addition) drinks with Elizabeth beautiful Camilla Nylund in Bayreuth next summer!
