Update: Another day of being sick and having to stay away from the NICU. :( Its been over a week now, and I feel so incredibly incomplete. On a happy note, I just got off the phone with the nurse practitioner at the NICU, and Ella is doing well. She had to have a diuretic to help her get rid of some of the fluid in her system because her kidneys are too immature to function optimally. This retention of fluid makes it more difficult to breathe, so her oxygen needs were going up. Since having the diuretic, shes breathing easier. Shes going to be able to be almost exclusively fed with breast milk soon, which is wonderful! No more IV nutrition. :) Its another huge step in the right direction. She also was able to come back off of the bili lights again (for now), so she can be swaddled. Shes tolerating her feeds better and is having fewer episodes where her heart rate and oxygen saturation plummets from holding her breath because of reflux. All of this is such wonderful news! We are thrilled that she is doing so well, and are, as always, so thankful for the support, concern, prayers, and love of our friends and family. Just need to get that little girl in my arms again.
