Update July 10, 2012 My surgery was a SUCCESS! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your prayers offered on behalf of me AND my medical team. Today we all have been strengthened in our faith in God and His Son Jesus Christ! Except for a small breakfast glitch, the day was perfect. Somewhere in the coordinating my care, someone in the food service thought I was NPO (nothing by mouth) after midnight. Actually it should have been NPO after 8:00. No problem, I can stand to lose some weight any way. :-) Speaking of weight, those who have known me quite a while (bless your hearts) are aware that in 1996 I lost 100 pounds in 10 months using a specific weight loss program. I loved the program, but just as I was entering the maintenance phase, they closed their Joplin, MO office. The results were amazing/ stunning. Unfortunately without the follow through, I gradually gained about 80 pounds back over the next 8 years. Well at least I am down 20! During our visits, my amazingly beautiful wife and I have been discussing our future. Why wouldnt we? We have been blessed with one. We both recognize my continued success will require a much fitter, trimmer me. I know in my heart of hearts that when I am back to where I was in 1996, life will be MUCH easier and more normal. I will do it. It will be In a maintainable manner. It will definitely be a lifestyle change. Today I finally felt up to watching some YouTube videos on the subject of above the knee amputation prosthesis. I am not too proud to say I weeped out loud as I watched what my future holds for me. I will be able to do ALL I did before. (I am still a bit skittish about Jet skiing.) Shari and I will be able to hike the Grand Canyon as we have always wanted. (Please do not tell her that the rim to rim or even the rim and back will require overnight camping. She is not a fan of tent camping.) Even the more day to day life experiences with all my grand children will be open to me! I will be able to ride my bicycle. Heck, there should be no reason to not be able to ride my Harley again! As Timbuk 3 sang, back in the 80s, my futures so bright, I gotta wear shades. I will report back my official next step. Yesterday, my surgeon with gold hands, Dr Mullins, felt that a successful surgery could result in hospital discharge on July 11. Then over to in-patient rehab. If it all holds out I will be going from a recent amputee in intensive care to rehab in one week. Now that, my prayer warriors, is YOUR miracle! I thank you from the bottom of my heart! I can never repay you for that, but I will try! Well enough for today, until next time.
