Update: My mom and dad are headed back to Mayo at 3 am, so prayers and positive thoughts, please, for my little Squish and Peanut who will be staying with me and are not happy about mommy being gone AGAIN. :( My mom has seven appointments this week for various tests and with various specialists and then surgery on Thursday for biopsies on several upper abdominal organs possibly including her pancreas, depending on the test results. Many of you have left comments and sent emails, etc wanting to share information about alternative cancer treatments and also about the benefits of cannabis for pain and to alleviate sickness. Please know that we are looking into everything and exploring every possibility, so keep sharing. Many alternative treatments dont work for neuroendocrine cancer just like traditional treatments dont work because neuroendocrine cancer is unlike other cancers in that it isnt sugar avid and it arises in embryonic organ cells, basically stem cells, instead of the cells of the organs affected. It doesnt respond to traditional treatments and often doesnt show up on normal scans so there is literally nothing the doctors can do except keep searching for (often via invasive and/or surgical procedures) and surgically removing any cancer they find. In the last 3 1/2 months moms poor body has been through not one, but two surgeries the doctors call brutal and the medical literature calls the most painful surgery to recover from, its recovery being measured in months and years, not weeks. Im equal parts scared theyre not going to find cancer thats hidden and scared they are going to find it and have to do more surgeries.
