Update: Real estate agent tells me no new properties are equipped with direct phone line connectivity - it is the responsibility of the landlord or owner to have this service completed and connected. I find this very odd indeed, especially in this day and age. At $299 dollars for the landlord, its a costly install for something they probably should have done as a condition of normality in buying a new property. So long as it gets installed, I am happy, but still confused :)
