Update: Some (possible/sort of) good news.... I spoke with the doctor today and they are going to do their best to save my dads leg. Basically, he has a blockage in an artery that is preventing the blood from flowing to his leg, which is why it hasnt been healing. They are planning surgery [next week, most likely] to unblock it and see if they can get the blood flowing and hopefully heal his wound. That + extensive inpatient physical therapy could do the trick. If not, they would only need to amputate below the knee, which would make him eligible for a prosthetic. Until they schedule the surgery, he is at home hopped up on pain meds that the doctor gave him today. So... thanks for the prayers and good vibes - they appear to be working....
