Update for friends and family on Dad. On New Years Eve. Had to - TopicsExpress

Update for friends and family on Dad. On New Years Eve. Had to call in from work. Dad kept falling. His face looked different. Not assymetrical, but different. His speech slurred. Thick tongue. Different from if it was slurred from elevated blood sugar. He had strong even grips. But sudden decline. New Years Day, upon admission. Noticed he kept leaning to the right while up in his wheel chair. Asked why he was reaching down there since he was not used to a wheelchair. He said I dont know. Comfortable I guess and smiled- symmetrically. His hernia is bigger and pressing on his diaphragm. I suspected a possible stroke. But just wasnt ready to accept that yet. Now he shows indications of aspiration. I am almost convinced by now that indeed, Dad has had a stroke. Swallow studies have been ordered. Nuerochecks are good so far. He has already been taking all meds ever to prevent stroke. Really no need to put him through a CT scan to show what we already suspect. He is now in a Gerichair. He gets up and staggers without notice and then falls. Requires constant watch at his bedside. Hes too fast. He still is quick witted and even though he struggles to catch his breath, he can still reply with sarcasm or a funny comment while rolling his eyes. His appetite is still good. Feeds himself. Still with it. Knows where he is. Flirts with the staff. I believe the Prednosone is helping him feel better today.
