Update from Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler: Dear Friend, This week has brought a resolution to the President’s government shutdown. While I am glad the government is open again, I was disappointed the President and Senate refused to listen to the American people who are already reeling under the negative impacts of Obamacare and who also want to rein in Washington’s runaway spending. The Senate bill fails to provide relief from the onerous impact of Obamacare and gives a blank check to the administration without addressing our debt of deficit. Therefore, I could not support the proposal. The plan did not relieve Americans of the unfair health insurance mandates of Obamacare, nor relieve future generations of our enormous burden of debt. Washington cannot continue to ignore the burden it is placing on our citizens, children, and grandchildren. This week, I led colleagues in a discussion on the House floor about the challenges Obamacare presents to the American people, and opportunities the House is working on for positive solutions. Among those solutions is The American Health Care Reform Act, which I am a cosponsor of. This bill would fix the problems that exist in our broken health care system. The American Health Care Reform Act focuses on patient-centered reforms that are rooted in free markets. This is the better way to lower costs and solve problems in our health care system. I will continue to fight for common-sense policies that benefit the families and future generations of the Fourth District and all Americans. The highlight of the week was greeting World War II, Korean, and Vietnam War veterans from Missouri who came to Washington as part of their Honor Flight. These American heroes deserve the highest honor and all of our appreciation for the service and sacrifices they made to keep us free. It was a privilege to welcome them to their memorial and to thank them for their gift of freedom. May we all be inspired by their selfless service.
