Update from the TroQ .... Our quals will be changing dramatically so if anyone is thinking about joining us next year, be quick as it may be the last year we can offer those quals. After that the courses are going to have to be longer and so more expensive - sorry, out of our hands unfortunately. This is from the PTE rep for the beauty working group .....................................................The Targeted Review of Qualifications (TRoQ) for Beauty was triggered by NZQA on 8th April 2013, with HITO as lead organisation to drive and service the process. Since then, three representative working groups have been meeting and working up the detail of a proposed suite of qualifications in Makeup, Beauty, and Nails to suit the training needs of industry looking forward. The work of the working groups has been informed by an analysis of job roles and skills, consultation meetings, stakeholder surveys, needs analysis, and on-going feedback from the governance group. The first part of the two stage process was to identify industry training needs for the immediate future and propose a suite of qualifications to meet those needs, and the second stage will be to develop the qualifications further once NZQA approves them for development. This does involve a two-stage NZQA approval process - approval to develop (to be submitted by early November), and finally approval to list on the NZQF (as early as possible in 2015). A proposed suite of qualifications was put up for consultation prior to applying to NZQA for approval to develop. That consultation closed on 19th September and all responses have now been analysed and discussed by the governance group at its meeting on 3rd October. The survey got more than 200 responses and resulted in around 80% support for the proposed suite of qualifications being put to NZQA for approval to develop, and it also gathered a variety of detailed suggestions and comments about the qualifications. In accordance with the survey results, the governance group has decided to proceed with an application to NZQA for approval to develop the proposed qualifications, and to further address the detailed survey inputs during the development stage. Providers will shortly be asked sign two forms that will need to accompany the application for approval to develop - one in regard to consultation, and the other in regard to changing the status of all existing (local) quals to expiring (as they are to be replaced by the new NZ quals). The qualification documents are still available to view at beautytroq/ - click on the link at the bottom of the home page to go to the consultation page, and then on the link to open the PDF of the proposed Beauty services qualifications v7. One change made since they were posted is a name change for the level 5 qualification in Beauty (Therapist) from NZ Certificate to NZ Diploma. Thank you for all your input and interest to date, and on your behalf I would like to thank all the working group convenors and members for a job well done to reach this important milestone - huge commitment shown through no less than 7 versions of the proposed qualifications!
