Update on Joey- we have been here at CHOP for 11 days. After blood tests every single day, one X-Ray, one ct scan, one 4 hour sedated MRI, and two minor surgeries, we have finally figured out where the infection was coming from. The MRI showed a pocket of fluid on the bottom left rod in his back. Friday the doctor went in and washed the fluid out and sent a culture to the lab. They left the incision open with a wound vac in over the weekend. Today he had another surgery to remove the wound vac, rewash the rod, and make sure it hadnt spread. The culture came back today as staph. Fortunately it came back with sensitivities so we can treat it with oral antibiotics instead of iv. Joe will be on antibiotics for three months. We should be able to go home Wednesday. Hopefully. Ive seen my child poked and pricked for 11 days. He screams anytime they get near his iv because they have had to move it to every limb since his veins are so small. We are all ready to be home and go back to our normal. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. Also anyone counting thats surgery number 10. That goodness hes tough! :)
