Update on Shadow Cat. When you take in a timid/scared cat, you look for a few signs of hope to show that they arent completely impossible for any future. Its really sad when you have a wild cat that you have no option for except a long term cage or the hope that someone somewhere will let you put her in their cat run or yard, as they arent friendly. Shadow has in 2 short days, shown the immediate signs of going back to her friendly former self, before she went missing. Remembering that she was a wild cat a long time ago . . and it took many years to get her to the point that she was social. Things you look for - Will they move at all when you are in the room or do they stay deadly still. - The obvious hissing, growling and spitting - Is she meowing and growling . . or is she just growling, big difference between the two. Meows are a sign of communication above a growl. What is the type of meow - Will they eat in front of you (this is a big one, shows a level of comfort and letting down the guard) - Is she standing up and moving around in front of you, or flat to the floor hunched down and not moving - How are they with other cats - And the key thing . . does any of the above improve over time . .or get worse Shadow has always liked other cats. Thats a big sign . . as soon as she saw other cats this morning she began rolling around on her cage floor. She also ate ALL of her food . Then when I fed her this morning she ate all her food in front of me, with no growing or hissing. General fear of her new sitauation of course but a vast improvement. She is up and bright, she has always had poor eyesight so Ive been cautious of that issue, but she started walking around her cage and when I came downstairs just then . . she was calling out to me. Shes eating a lot and drinking well. Shes in great condition and Im not at all worried about her re-socialising. Very happy with her progress, but fully aware she will always be special needs.
