Update on foster kitties: Mama came to me from the shelter with an Upper Respiratory Infection. She was being treated for that, when the kittens began sneezing. One seemed to be failing so the vets office taught me how to tube feed him. The next morning I noticed Mamas whole nipple area was rock hard which was a sign of mastitis. I took everyone to the vet completely overwhelmed. They graciously offered to keep the babies and go home with one of the vet techs for bottle feeding every night. I brought mama home with me, to treat the mastitis (drying her up). Poor thing has been searching for the babies and crying pitifully. Yesterday I received a call from the vet that Squirt did not survive. He was the one that was originally failing. Today I received another call that we lost Whisper and Buster. Three are still alive, but very very sick. This is what happens when a kitty cold is passed around at the shelter. It is devastating to these tiny babies with no defenses. Needless to say, this has not been a wonderful first foster experience. The rescue will be trying to find an alternate foster for mama, and another one for any babies that survive this awful illness. Please pray for them….and me. :(
