Update on hospital refurbishment process The next phase of the Western Isles Hospital refurbishment process will start on Thursday (November 14). To allow improvement works to take place in the corridor from the chapel up to Erisort Ward and Clisham Ward, the corridor will be closed on Thursday morning. Access to Erisort for the public will be via the external fire exit to the rear of the hospital. Access to Clisham will be via the Acute Psychiatric Unit (APU) external fire exit. The corridor currently under refurbishment (just past the hospital shop to the area past the chapel) will also remain closed until further notice, while this work takes place. The corridors will be re-opened as soon as possible, and NHS Western Isles would like to apologise for any inconvenience in the meantime. The current work is part of a significant refurbishment process in Western Isles Hospital which will be ongoing for a number of months, and will involve the replacement of the floor coverings from the hospital shop up to Erisort Ward and around to Medical 2. At each stage in the process, access to corridors will be restricted to allow the carpets to be removed and new vinyl floor coverings to be fitted. Temporary partitions will be installed in each corridor section to prevent access to the work site and minimise the infection control risks. Please note that the emergency access road around the back of the hospital has been opened up for public pedestrian access. Parking will not be permitted on the emergency access road under any circumstances.
