Update on my dad. Im truly thrilled to say hes home from hospital which to me and my family is nothing short of a miracle. My thanks to all for the support and messages of goodwill we received from my Facebook friends both near and far, it helped immensely and was greatly appreciated. Hes still as you can imagine a little unwell, unsteady on his feet and looking at tad frail but hes alive! When I arrived at my fathers Tuesday night (seems a lifetime ago now) to find him collapsed on his bathroom floor trapped between the radiator and the washbasin pedestal I thought I had lost him. He had no pulse his lips were blue, I suppose right then hed gone. I cant think of a better description than I ripped him from where he was trapped and dragged him on to the landing, Im not sure how I managed that because although hes nearly 80 hes no bag of bones and he was well and truly trapped.. Once I got him on the landing and after what seemed like an eternity I managed to get him breathing again, If I live to be a 100 I will never forget that noise as he drew in that first breath. Ill also never forget my poor mums face the look of total desparate despair. A few minutes later the paramedic a wonderful man called Mike arrived and cared for my dad while we waited for an ambulance to take him to hospital... Some 80 yes 80 minutes later, that though is a story for another day. My dads still here and hes we think going to make a full recovery and for that we are all truly grateful. So hes home and normal service is resumed by that I mean the banter, the merciless mickey taking my family enjoy/endure! I was sat with my dad just having a quiet moment or two when he said I believe Ive got you to thank for saving my life? No dad you dont have to thank me for anything I just thank god I got here in time and It wasnt just me, Mike the paramedic the doctors and nurses at the hospital because it was still touch and go when you were in there.. No not just me dad a lot of people saved your life on Tuesday night. He thought for a moment and said I know what youre saying but your mum as told me how you pulled me out of the bathroom and got me breathing again he took a short pause then, before continuing So Im going to say this only once so make the most of it lad... THANK YOU! Well dont go bloody overboard will you dad! Just think yourself lucky I didnt stop for a bag of boiled sweets and a newspaper on the way up! I remove the icy hand of death that had firmly gripped your shoulder and you just say THANK YOU like Ive just brought you a bag of pork scratchings with your pint! You have no idea how near you were to checking out have you?.. When I got here you were all but dead! They said at the hospital I was lucky you got here so quickly and knew what to do, so perhaps I have been a bit mean so Ill say it again but this is the last time lad.. THANK YOU! Lucky! You were Lucky! that pator is an understatement of Titanic proportions! I thought you had gone I really did, so much so I had even composed the first page of your eulogy in my head.. I think you would have liked it too, it was witty yet poignant With a smile and glint in his eye he said right fetch me my paper and then pissoff and let me read it in peace I knew right then I had got my dad back! There were nearly tears my fellow facebookers nearly tears! I did learn one thing about myself on Tuesday night though, now I love my dad I know that, he is despite our sometimes cruel banter my mate, my hero, my dad, but one thing I wasnt prepared for is how much, how deeply I love that man....
