Update on my dog Magenta. The veterinarian that my parents have - TopicsExpress

Update on my dog Magenta. The veterinarian that my parents have been taking their animals to for years said theres no need to put her to sleep yet because its likely Vestibular disease, not a stroke. So we treated and cleaned her ears, paying extra attention to the right one since thats the side she falls to when she tries to walk. He said it often improves on its own, but it can take anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks. So well wait and see, and if theres no change well make sure its not cancer and then put her on medication.♡ Shes almost 15 and really shouldnt have lived this long, but shes so full of life for being so old! If not for her graying hair, occasional hip stiffness, and being a chunky monkey, youd never know shes as old as she is; so it was killing me to think Id have to put her to sleep when shes got such a lively disposition. Im happy and hopeful now :) A fairly common reason for a veterinary visit is the concern that an older dog has had a stroke, when he suddenly starts walking like a drunken sailor with his head tilted ... The vestibular system is composed of portions of the brain and ear and is responsible for maintaining a sense of balance. When something goes wrong with this system, it’s like being drunk on a rocky boat. Dogs with idiopathic vestibular disease have some combination of the following signs: •Head tilt •Unsteady gait •Loss of balance •Falling over •Circling in one direction •Eyes rapidly moving from side to side known as nystagmus •Sudden vomiting (She has every symptom)
