Update on severe weather situation in Victoria: A severe northerly gale is developing across the State today with wind gusts around the Melbourne area already reaching 85 km/hr this morning. The winds are likely to continue to increase and spread to all districts this afternoon. The worst conditions with wind gusts to potentially as high as 120-130 km/hr are likely later this afternoon and tonight, and are most likely in elevated areas or with showers and thunderstorms. Wind of this strength can easily remove large branches or blow down trees, blow loose objects around and cause damage to roofing and windows of houses. Driving conditions will become very hazardous especially on exposed roads and bridges. Conditions should ease from the west overnight and Tuesday morning. Exercise caution today as these conditions are unusually intense for Victoria. Good luck out there and stay safe.
