Update on the straw bale garden. We are way behind in gardening - TopicsExpress

Update on the straw bale garden. We are way behind in gardening around here due to some family issues, busy schedules and a cold wet spring. Nonetheless I am plugging onward with my garden. Fingers crossed we will reap some produce before it gets to cool. I am enjoying the straw bale garden, it has few weeds and the weeds that do grow are easy to pull. Digging holes to plant my plants has become much easier now that the straw has broken down more. Have eaten some snap peas, delicious, green beans are doing well. Cocozelle squash plants want to take over, should probably have spaced them out more. This week I transplanted 3 tomato plants, two barely alive lima bean plants and two green pepper plants into the garden. Still plenty of room for more, need to buy more soil though. Topped all existing plantings with some more soil today as well. I have also planted cucumbers in coffee bean bags along the garden fence. They seem to be happy and will climb the fence, I hope.
