Updated description: Friends of Blencathra Mass Walk with special guest appearance :) Its a bit like the famous 1932 Mass Trespass of Kinder Scout, however we are not trespassing, and not climbing a mountain! :D Next Wednesday, July 2nd, is the deadline for submission of sealed bids for the purchase of Blencathra, the iconic Lake District mountain put up for sale by Lord Lonsdale. Friends of Blencathra will be celebrating the submission of their bid with a walk from Keswick to Threlkeld. Walkers, climbers, fell runners, mountain bikers, farmers, education and outdoor centre users, paragliders - any user or admirer of the mountain is encouraged to take part. Meeting at Moot Hall (info centre) in Keswick at 11am and start walking for 11:15am. The walk will follow the line of the disused railway for 4.5 miles. Our aim is to arrive at the Threlkeld Cricket Ground for about 1pm for a big group photo, and to finish off with refreshments in the Horse and Farrier. If you wish to park at the cricket ground before the walk and catch a bus into Keswick, there will be a small parking fee of £1. There is a bus to Keswick from the Horse and Farrier at 09:51. The walk is timed to coincide with the bid deadline, and it will be a joyful confirmation of the immense amount of public support and goodwill for the campaign to bring Blencathra into public ownership. https://facebook/events/329954080495699
