Updated on: 02/10/2013 Police Inspection Teams Intensify Their Security Campaign In Shuwaikh Industrial Area 100,000 ‘Illegal’ In Shuwaikh Inspections Set KUWAIT CITY, Sept 30: Weak monitoring of lapses in the labor market has resulted in a number of violations of the regulations of Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and Kuwait Municipality by about 100,000 workers from almost 10,000 trading and industrial companies in Shuwaikh Industrial Area. According to an informed source, all these workers hold invalid visas because the companies they work for do not have files in the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor. He indicated that the ministry had suspended issuing work permits to companies in Shuwaikh for a while but those companies violate the law by using the licenses of companies in the Capital Governorate, adding that these violating companies serve as subsidiary offices for the main companies, which is a clear violation of the laws and regulations. The source stressed that the ministry did not issue work permits for those violating companies to recruit workers, adding that employing workers in companies without obtaining technical and administrative permits from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Kuwait Municipality breaches the labor law of the private sector. He indicated that inspectors from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor will intensify inspection activities to uncover such violations and take necessary legal actions accordingly. He explained that the security operatives are unable to arrest the violators as they are assigned to only verify whether the person holds valid residency or not and cannot act on workplaces and their licenses. Meanwhile, Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor is intending to allow receipt of applications for residence transfers and work permit issuances at the Citizen Service Centers in all areas. Reliable sources revealed that the service, which will be available only for employers, will come into effect starting next week based on directives from the Ministry Undersecretary Abdulmohsen Al-Mutairi. They stressed that the decision will be aimed to reduce the pressure on various departments and sectors of the ministry as well as save time and effort. They explained that the new services include transfer and cancellation of different types of residencies irrespective of whether the residence transfer is within the private sector, from the government sector to the private sector or from domestic visa to private sector work visa. They added that the services also include transfer of dependant or family visa to private sector work visa. They indicated that the Assistant Undersecretary for Labor Affairs Jamal Al-Dousari will follow up the implementation of the decision after it is issued.
