Updates: 1.) After meeting with Lyndsey Hawkins, interim - TopicsExpress

Updates: 1.) After meeting with Lyndsey Hawkins, interim director of the Bradley Health Center, I think its a good idea to set up the checkpoint during senior walk. We could set it up in the community garden, hand out water, call cabs if necessary, and give students a place to rest. It is not an official endorsement - its really nothing more than acknowledging that this happens with or without endorsement, and the best thing that we can do is try to make it safer. We would need volunteers and donations of bottled water, plus a follow up crew to clean up. Maris Mednis has tentatively volunteered to be there, and I can definitely help clean-up afterward. 2.) After the meeting with Lyndsey, I met with Chuck Grayeb and asked if we could block the parking spots off in front of Blue that day. The sidewalks are narrow and the students tend to be in large groups that spill out into the street. I feel like blocking off that area around the sidewalk might help keep them a little safer. Im waiting to hear back for approval on the checkpoint and the blocking of parking spots. 3.) There will most likely be a meeting with city officials the week of April 7th regarding a special services district, which involves funding for the business corridors (thats us!). I dont currently know much more than that, but will let you know more as I know more. 4.) During the conversation with Chuck, I made sure to let him know that all of our members are interested in working with anyone who wants to work with us and that we all welcome any groups that want to work towards the betterment of this area. He is also aware that community service is at the core of our mission and has shown himself more than willing to work with us as we move forward. It was a really nice meeting :) 4.) On Monday, I am taking a walk up Main Street, starting at 2 pm at One World. I will be personally handing out letters to each business that will inform them of the April 6th meeting and clean-up. Its a great opportunity to share a little bit about what we do and how wed like to work with everyone on West Main to create a better environment. Who wants to come with me?
