Upon fulfillment of all the requirements of Cabinet Criteria, following universities have been allowed to operate through their campuses at Islamabad : University Name Chartered By 1 Iqra University, Karachi (Islamabad Campus, H-9, Islamabad) Government of Sindh 2 Preston University, Kohat - H-8/1, Islamabad Government of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa 3 University of Lahore, Lahore - Jinnah Avenue, Blue Area, Islamabad Government of the Punjab 4 Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Karachi - Blue Area, Islamabad Government of Sindh 5 Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Instt. of Science & Technology, F-8 Markaz, Islamabad Government of Sindh 6 University of Lahore, Lahore - Blue Area, Islamabad Government of the Punjab 7 Mohiuddin Islamic University, Nerian Sharif, AJ&K - Islamabad Campus, 30 East, Union Plaza, Fazal-e- Haq, Blue Area, Islamabad Government of AJ&K b). Following universities are allowed by the Higher Education Commission (erstwhile UGC) to operate through their campuses in Federal Capital Territory of Islamabad upto June 30, 2010: University Name Chartered By 1 Hamdard University, Karachi - F-8 Markaz, Islamabad Government of Sindh c). Following distance education Centers (DCEs) of Sarhad University of Science & Information Technology (SUIT), Peshawar - a private chartered university in private sector established under NWFP Government Ordinance - have been allowed by HEC to operate in Islamabad: 1. Comwave Institute of Information Technology, 1st Floor, Kashif Plaza, F-8/2, Islamabad 2. Islamabad Federal College, Adjacent MCB, F-10 Markaz, Islamabad 3. National Textile Institute (NTI), G-6/2, Melody, Islamabad welcome SOPs for establishment of a new university / institution of higher education The parameters/facilities required to be fulfilled prior to establishment of a new university/institution has been approved by the Federal Cabinet in February, 2002 and assented to by the Chancellors’ Committee headed by the President of Pakistan. These parameters are given in a booklet, namely: Criteria/Guidelines for the Establishment of a New University/ Institute of Higher Education A model charter has also been approved for effective management of universities/institutions namely: Federal Universities Ordinance, 2002
