11 schools, 20 brgys joining streetdancing Published on: October 11, 2013 in: Media Gallery News Chrysee Samillano | Visayan Daily Star Eleven schools and 20 barangays will compete in the arena and streetdance competition on October 18 and 20, respectively, to highlight the 34th MassKara Festival in Bacolod City. The participating barangays are Cabug, Alijis, 6, 16, 21, 26, 31, 37, 3, 4, 22, 39, 12, 34, 15, 11, 20, 29, 35, and 30, Rudy Reveche, chairman of the Streetdance Committee, said yesterday. The participating schools are Paglaum Village Elementary School, Vista Alegre-Granada Relocation Elementary School, Crispino Y. Ramos Elementary School, Estefania Elementary School, Education and Training Center School lll, Abkasa Elementary School, Villa Esperanza Elementary School, Bata National High School, Mansilingan Agro Industrial High School, Bacolod City National High School and Barangay Singcang-Airport National High School. Reveche said the champion in the barangay category will receive P100,000, first runner-up, P75,000 and second runner-up P50,000. The champion for the schools category will receive P75,000, first runner-up P50,000 and second runner-up P30,000, he said. The streetdance barangay category will start at noon on October 20, while the schools category will start at 1 p.m. from Lizares-Araneta streets all the way down to the Bacolod plaza, Reveche added. Kasadya Bacolod Foundation Inc. president and festival director Rhoderick Samonte said they will issue traffic advisories so motorists will be informed of road closures to be implemented along the Tourism Strip covering the stretch of Lacson Street from the South and North Capitol Roads up to the corner of BS Aquino Drive during the highlight of the festival. Samonte said the Lacson strip will be closed to traffic from 10 p.m. on October 16 up to 6 a.m. the next day to allow the construction and installation of all event eight performance stages and kiosks, while the North Capitol Road will be closed starting 5 p.m. on Oct. 16. The Lacson Strip will be closed to traffic daily from 4 p.m. on October 17 to 19 and will be re-opened at 6 a.m. the next day. On October 20, it will be re-opened to traffic at 12 p.m. because the entire morning will be utilized for dismantling of stages and kiosks and clean up of the strip, Samonte said. He said the highlight of the Electric MassKara will be on October 19 along the Lacson strip starting 9 p.m. and will feature giant lighted puppets, fire dancers and throwers, and neon lighted floats. Bacolod Police Deputy Chief for Operations P/Supt. Jefferson Descallar, in charge of safety and security for the festival, said they will impose comprehensive security measures on October 17 and 18 and install 17 to 20 check points to ensure a safe and secure celebration. Traffic Management Unit-North head Levy Pangue said they will deploy about 200 traffic enforcers and will tap the services of force multipliers. Meanwhile, Samonte said a request for budget was made for police and traffic personnel covering the MassKara Festival that he hopes will be granted. Descallar said the budget for about 200 regular policemen and 200 traffic enforcers, serving the MassKara Festival from October 1 to 20, is P30 per meal, or a total of about P2 million. Samonte said he cannot speak in behalf of the city but since the MassKara Festival is a people’s festival and not the government’s alone, he is encouraging everyone especially business establishments, to extend their “Bayanihan spirit” by donating food for the police and traffic enforcers. On the other hand, the Kasadya Bacolod Foundation Inc. in cooperation with Jollibee Lacson and the 2nd year Communication students of USLS held the Media Arts Day yesterday at Jollibee Lacson that was attended by several media practitioners.#
